I am super proud of the members of my group. They are a perfect fit in our company culture, they uphold the company values, they understand the way we work and as a result, they perform!

On the other hand, I am equally as proud, if not more proud of who we don’t take on board.

It’s so important to stay true to your values, stand by your hiring rules and preserve the company culture. It can be so tempting to break your own rules for the sake of having a nicer looking scoreboard in the short term. However, this can cost you a lot more in the long term.

You may not pick up on it during the hiring process, but once it reveals itself, it’s ideal to remove it immediately as it can spread like cancer within the organisation.

I celebrate when we get the right people on board who are a great fit and celebrate when we terminate the agreements for people who are not the right fit.
